How to hide and unhide a folder in Windows

Introduction

Sometimes we keep our sensitive data in folders which we do not want others to see. In that case we can hide it. So in this article we will learn how to hide a folder in Windows and unhide it whenever we need it.

To hide a folder in Windows

  • first right click on any folder which you want to hide
  • A shortcut/context menu will appear. click on the bottom most option ‘Properties‘.
  • New folder Properties Window will appear. Click the check box Hidden under Attributes section
  • Click on Apply button.
  • Now two option will appear which will ask you to choose between ‘apply changes to this folder only‘ or ‘apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files‘. click on any option according to your requirement.
  • And finally click on OK button.

Now when we need to unhide a folder in Windows , we will follow the steps given below .

To unhide a folder in Windows

  • first move to the control panel window and click on Large icons
  • then click on File Explorer Options
  • File Explorer Options Window will appear. Click on View tab
  • Under Advanced settings, click the checkbox ‘show hidden files, folders and drives.’
  • And finally click on OK button.
  • Your hidden folder will be visible but it will not be so clear to you as it is still in hidden mode.
  • So to remove it, again right click on the folder , then on Properties option and in Properties Window, deselect the check box hidden under Attributes section.
  • click on apply and then on Ok .
  • The folder will be clearly visible to everyone.
